Our week in review

First of all, Eli has had a big week. He cut his second tooth this week, learned how to clap, and can finally feed himself finger foods. The feeding has led to a lot more clapping. And my little dude has never been happier! Now once he figures out how to crawl, he will super duper happy. I'm not pushing that one too hard though. I will forever miss the simplicity of a baby that doesn't crawl.

Yesterday I had one of the most frustrating days at school that I've ever had. (Actually the whole week has been frustrating.) It just wasn't pretty. We barely have enough staff to cover the amount of kids that we have so when teachers aren't there it's difficult. (I'm not at all complaining about teachers not coming.) So at least one of our teachers had been planning to not be there yesterday and let our director know. The frustrating part is that she didn't bother to try to get someone to cover for this teacher until yesterday morning. I totally get that she was trying to save money by not paying a sub if we didn't need one, but in doing so it made the whole day stressful for the rest of the teachers.

Side note: I had started the day out frustrated yesterday. Ryan asked me why I was being so quiet and I told him I was trying to get happy. I should have known then that it would be a challenging day.

Because we have too many kids and not enough teachers, we had to combine the two 3 yr old classrooms in order to share teachers with other classes. When this decision was first made, my class only had 4 kids there so far (although I assured them that more were coming!). Sure enough within 30 minutes, I had 9 kids in my class. Once the other class was added, we had somewhere around 17-18 kids. I don't know what you've been doing in your free time lately, but I'm guessing most of you haven't been in a room with 18 three yr olds. Add in to the mix that of those 18ish kids, there are at least two that are very likely on the autism spectrum. One little guy from my class is like the kid from "Problem Child", that movie from the 80's. He is the epitome of hyper. Drives me absolutely crazy. The stress level was high to say the least.

Yesterday was also picture day at school. So one teacher and I were waiting with the kids who were going to be having pictures. (The other kids were having PE time.) We had about 9-10 of the three year olds in a hall way. There were some chairs that most of the kids were sitting in while waiting for everyone to have their picture taken. Well "Problem Child" was acting CUH-RAZY and I had called him down several times and asked him to sit down in his chair. The next thing I know, he has fallen out of the chair, which flipped over. But instead of the chair landing on this child, it caught Eva right across the knuckles. She was sitting in the chair right across from him.

Long story short, I took this little boy to the director. More for my sake than his because I almost lost it! Eva was hysterical and wouldn't move her finger so I thought it was broken. It's not, thank goodness. But it is deeply bruised and is still a little swollen.

Spring break is here just in time!

Actually, yes, I have 18-22 children in my classroom every day. BUT, I understand your frustration. I am glad that Eva's finger is not broken. And, yes, I agree that Spring Break could not have come at a better time! Miss you friend.
