Some funnies

The hard thing about having a kid with a pretty significant speech delay is that you miss out on so many of their thoughts.  For at least a year, we have said things like, "I would love to know what Eli is thinking about!" The fun thing is that when he starts gaining the words to share some thoughts, the reward feels bigger.  My big boy still has a long way to go, but he starting to get some stuff out.

(As a side note, Eli was tested for the preschool program with our school district back in April.  He definitely qualified and will be doing a 4 day a week preschool program, where he will be getting daily speech therapy as well as occupational therapy to help with some of his sensory needs.  We definitely felt that this was a HUGE answer to prayer for our Eli.  After lots of testing, the speech therapist believes that Eli may have apraxia.  This is one of those good news/bad news kinds of things.  The good news is that knowing his difficulty gives the speech therapist a direction to go with therapy.  The bad news is that this is not a quick fix diagnosis.  He will have a long road ahead of him.  But he is making progress and we are INSANELY proud of him!  I mean... the kind of proud that makes me cry when I talk about him. *Cheesy mom grin*)

So back to the funnies.  Eli has said several things lately that need to be written down to remember forever.  :)

Last week, I chose not to wake up early and shower before the kids got up.  I had a reason, but can't remember it right now.  :)  Anyway, I still had an awesome case of bed-head when Eli woke up.  He looked at me with that furrowed brow and serious eyes and said, "Mama!  Your hair! (something I didn't understand) It a mess!"  It was so funny!

Also last week, we were driving in the car and singing along to my new Christy Nockels CD.  (LOVE!)  Anyway, we finished singing the very first song which is the current favorite and Eli said, "Good job, mama!"  Now the secret is out.  I sound exactly like Christy when I sing.  :)

I feel like I had another funny story, but I can't remember it.  :-/  I'll keep thinking.

Just feel so blessed to watch this boy work so hard and then to see his thoughts come to fruition with words.  Oh the things we take for granted.
