So you'll just have to imagine the red cast that is hidden under his coat in this first picture. I don't have any pictures of the shiny red one. But he was just so cute playing in the snow.
This was cast number one, which Eli got in late August after wrestling with his daddy one Saturday morning.
So that's right, two casts in three months. The second incident happened the week before Christmas. Eli was in his room playing alone while I was cooking dinner. I heard a crash, then a cry, and since Eli doesn't normally cry after a crash, I went running. He was standing in the middle of his room with his little arm hanging to his side. He kept saying something about the bed and the floor. My best guess is that he was sitting on the edge of his bed and fell. The funny part is that now when people ask him what happened, he holds up his arm and says, "I broke the bed." It's really funny!
You might be thinking, "Wow, two casts in three months?!" And the orthopedist must have been thinking the same thing, because she sent us to have Eli's vitamin D levels tested. And last week we found out that he is in fact vitamin deficient...which is actually worse that vitamin insufficient. Just in case you were wondering. :) His vitamin D level is at 15 np/mL and they want his level to be 50 np/mL! That's a big leap. But we have really great vitamins that are hopefully doing their job.
We're also working on making a few dietary changes for the little dude. The boy who used to eat everything has become increasingly picky over the last year. I didn't think much about it at first, because he still ate a pretty well-balanced diet. And although he does still eat things from all food groups, the selections have decreased drastically. Hopefully that will be changing soon with some of our efforts on the home-front!
