Spring Break

Our school district does their own version of spring break that essentially consists of two long weekends. I'm not sure I love it, but they didn't ask me so we make the most of it. This weekend was the first part of our break, and it just so happened that Ryan had an all weekend training that he was going to. I didn't want to sit at home all weekend while he worked, so I decided to put on my big girl pants and make the trip to Tulsa with the kids ALL BY MYSELF to see the grandparents/in-laws. I was nervous about it because I've never done that trip alone before. Normally when we stop Ryan and I divide and conquer when it comes to taking kids to the bathroom and stuff. I wasn't sure how it was all going to work. But you know what?! I did it! All by myself.

Of course, the trip comes with comical stories. Because how could it not?

The trip there was actually pretty uneventful. No big deal. The return trip this afternoon was a whole other story. The stretch of road between Tulsa and Joplin is an almost hour and a half long toll road. No easy exits and really no place to stop. So clearly I made sure every woman and child went to the bathroom before we hit the road. Imagine my surprise when Isaac declares he has to potty smack dab in the middle of nowhere. Minutes later he is crying because he needs to go and even he can tell that there are nothing but pastures and cows for as far as the eye can see! After quickly weighing the pros and cons, I decides to put on my hazards and pull over so he could tinkle in the grass. As soon as I pulled over, Eli also said he had to potty.

I quickly got Isaac out of his seat, let him potty and buckled him back in. Then I got Eli out, let him go and was buckling him back in as I kept watching the cars whiz past me at 80mph.  And it was as I was buckling Eli and watching out the back window that I saw a state trooper pull up behind me and turn on his lights. My heart started racing.

Am I going to get a ticket? Is it not okay to pull over and let kids pee on the turnpike? These are questions that I did not know the answer to!  So I finished buckling Eli in and was climbing back into the front seat when Mr. State Trooper walks up to my window. I quickly roll the window down while doing a mental check of where my driver's license and insurance are.

Luckily the very nice trooper only asked if I was okay or if I needed any help. I explained our situation and he chuckled and said okay! He told me to have a good day and then we were all on our separate ways.

Thankfully the rest of the trip was less eventful.

We stopped for lunch at Chick-fil-a today and the kids decided to turn in their toys for ice cream.
I think they liked it. :)

Thanks Mimi and TyTy for a fun weekend!

And thanks Mr. State Trooper for not giving me a ticket.
