...To quote our friend "Truvy" in Steel Magnolias. That's what will be going on here come November-ish. Why? You ask. Well, let's back up a bit. Back in March, I kept having these moments of feeling sick, I would eat, the feeling would pass. I assumed it was a blood sugar thing. I've been told that I'm hypoglycemic before and if I don't eat regularly I do get a little crazy.
Fast forward a few weeks. I started feeling nauseous pretty much all the time. Surely not, I thought to myself. There's no way I could be... nope, there's no way that happened. No, I'm not. Definitely couldn't be. Could I be? Oh holy cow, I might be. And on and on the dialogue went in my head for about a week to week and a half. Then over Easter it intensified a little. Still wasn't feeling completely terrible, but I was ferociously hungry, my face was breaking out, and I felt nauseated a lot. I talked to Ryan and we both joked that we weren't ready to know, so we would just wait and see what happened in 9 months.
On the Monday after Easter, I couldn't take it anymore. I bought a pregnancy test... and then I took it... but I chickened out and wouldn't look at it. So I hid it. Ryan came home from work and I informed him of what I'd done. He was too scared to look too. Finally at about 10:00 that night, he caved and went to the bathroom to look at it. Even after I took the test Monday afternoon, I kept convincing myself that there was no way it was positive. But alas, the test declared "PREGNANT" in big bold letters, with no room for misinterpretation.
I had no idea how far along I was, but guessed, based on how long I'd been sick, that I could be about 7 weeks or so. I called the dr.'s office and they said they couldn't get me in for 4 weeks. I knew they could do better. So I called and talked to my doctor's nurse... whom I love, and she said they could get me in this week. So on Wednesday, I went in and my doctor reminded me that surprises are sometimes life's greatest gifts! I love her! She is so great! She guessed, after an exam, that I was roughly 6 weeks but wanted to do an ultrasound to be sure. I went back yesterday morning and had an ultrasound.

I saw one little baby squirming around in there with a very strong heart beat!!! (I had been terrified of having twins.) And after some measurements, realized that I am 8 1/2 weeks pregnant! And baby 3 (whom we affectionately refer to as "curve ball") is due November 22nd... right before Thanksgiving!
It took a while for the shock to wear off, but we really are so excited about this little addition. He/she will only be about 16 months younger than big brother Eli. Which is why I'll be busier than a one-armed paper hanger! But I wouldn't have it any other way. I feel so unbelievable blessed! Believe me, I do not take lightly the fact that we are able to conceive babies so easily. I know that's not true for everyone, and I feel unworthy of such an incredible gift.
And that is our story!

Yay! Congrats! You will be fine. Karissa was our little surprise and what a delightful surprise she is! 16 months is close, but you already pretty much only do kid stuff, right? AND all three will be such close friends. We are so excited for y'all. But, no more calling yourself lazy! Obviously laziness is not why getting the camera and cord was such a chore. Take your vitamins!
