About 2 yrs ago, when God began preparing us to make the big move to Kansas City, we basically told him no. Then I woke up the next morning and heard him tenderly saying, "Your faith is too small, sweet child." So we started praying again. That weekend, at church, God used the story of Abraham and Sarah to tell us very clearly that we were to go to KC...even though it didn't make 100% sense and we didn't have all the answers. Needless to say, their story has been so special to us for the last couple of years.
Fast forward about 18 months, it's the day after Easter and Ryan confirmed to me what I'd been suspecting for over a week. (Remember I made him go look at the pregnancy test, b/c I chickened out!) It wasn't exactly the family event we'd planned for and I told Ryan I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. His exact words were, "Laugh now. Cry later." A couple of days later he commented that our situation made him laugh because our third (yes, THIRD!) unexpected gift was on the way.
For the next few months we just continued to laugh at ourselves and laugh at the fact that God is bigger than our attempts at planning our own lives. Then we found out our little gift was going to be another boy and we were pretty excited. We began to talk about names for this little gift and we didn't agree on much. Finally, in a moment of frustration (funny frustration, not angry frustration) I sat down with a baby name book and wrote down every boy name that I thought I could like and gave it to my loving husband. I told him to narrow it down.
Long story short (or short story long?), we kept coming back to the name "Isaac". You know Isaac, the son of Abraham and Sarah; God's fulfilled promise to this faithful couple. When the angel told Sarah that she would have him she laughed and said that everyone around her would laugh when they heard she'd given birth at such an old age. (I like her sense of humor, don't you?) Isaac means laughter/Son of laughter. We love it and feel like it's just the name for our little guy.
I found this verse and thought it was perfect for our little guy:
Our mouths were filled with laughter,
our tongues with songs of joy.
Then it was said among the nations,
"The Lord has done great things for us,
and we are filled with joy!"
~Ps. 126:2-3
Aren't these letters super cute??? A sweet friend made them for us out of fabric and I'm thinking of hanging them in his room on a "clothesline". Wouldn't that be cute?
Hopefully I can introduce you to the sweet little face behind the name soon!
Also, please be praying with me that I don't have to have a C-section this go around. I'm trusting God's plan and you may remember that He intervened at the very last second with Eli. I went into the hospital for my scheduled C and told them that I was in labor instead! I'm just praying that I go into labor on my own in the next week or two so that it isn't even an issue. Either way, I'm trusting Him.

Well Yay! There's the story, and I like the name even more now. Laughter is one thing I ALWAYS associate with you, my friend.
Awe, Lori, that was really sweet. Thank you! :)
What an awesome story to share with your little guy one day! Name meanings should be special, and it sounds like God worked this one all out for you. :)
Can't wait to see pictures of him in the near future. I'm sure he will add much more joy and laughter to your sweet family.
