Songs

Recently, I realized that if I sing to Eva while we are in the car, she doesn't fuss as much.  She is always a little cranky on the way home from Mother's Day Out because she's tired and usually hungry.  So last week we started singing different songs and she got really quiet, put her finger in her mouth, and just stared out of the window.  When I would stop, she would say "Song!"  and I would rack my brain for another kid song.

Well, today, we were out and about running errands and the situation repeated itself.  So, on our way home, I started singing such irritating classics as "The Wheels on the Bus", etc.  We were at a LONG red light that also had a LONG line of cars, so I had to come up with a lot of songs.  I started singing "Zaccheus (?) was a wee little man..."  and Eva said "No! No!  Song."  So I sang a different song.  Then, (still sitting at the red light) I started to sing "Under the Sea"  you know the one... Little Mermaid.  How can you go wrong with Little Mermaid?  Apparently, I can because I got the "no" again from the back seat.  She definitely has her favorites and here they are:
1. Tomorrow!  From "Annie"
2. The Wheels on the Bus...
3. Moon Song... that's probably not the real name of the song, but that's what we call it.
4. The B-I-B-L-E.   And of course...
5. Jesus Loves Me

I still need to refresh my memory on some other songs.  Suggestions?  I'll gladly take them!  :)

Songs never fail (guess I should say "almost" never). When we were on our vacation in January, there were a few times when we had to go to the grocery store after we'd gone into town to eat supper. Joel would just run in and get what we needed. It was always past the kids' bedtime, so there was great potential for them to be super cranky. Because of long lines and the fact that Joel was not at all familiar with that store, sometimes it would be an hour or more that we were stuck in the car just waiting. Same thing...I found that if we sang, all was well in our little world. We started singing with the kids when they were around Eva's age though, when we'd be driving. So funny that that is so universal an aid in driving with little ones. We would make up songs alot though...songs that we still sing. Grady would want to sing "the Papaw song" for instance. Hmm...never heard of the Papaw song (Papaw is what they call my Daddy), so we'd make it up. We got really, really good at it I'd have to say. :-)

Have fun singing.

Do you remember all our singing on the way to church in Ft. Worth? We sang many songs and it usually worked--even when you guys were older than Eva. One of the favorites was, "Oh Haley, do you love Jesus?" Echo, "Oh yes, I love Jesus." You know the rest. We sang many of the praise choruses that were popular then (you know--back in "the day!) How fun!

Give my sweet baby a big hug and kiss and tell her that Gii loves her. "Happy trails to you." : ) You probably don't even get that--since it was back in "the day."

That sweet baby has always loved someone singing to her! I remember when she was just a little baby and she fell asleep at the restaurant as I got to sing to her (that's pretty desperate on her part to listen to Mimi's voice - I know she loves her mommy's voice much better!)

I'd love to see you two going down the highway with you singing your heart out!

Love you all - Mimi
