Anyway, I can pinpoint exactly where my disdain for fireworks began. For those that don't know, I am the youngest of 3 children... and the older two are boys. Needless to say, I was the butt of many torturous events throughout childhood. There were many fireworks that were "accidentally" set off in my direction. I quickly learned to just stay inside so that I would not cry on special occasions.
Well, two years today, my hate for neighborhood fireworks grew to new levels. At the time, Eva was just 6 weeks old. Our lovely neighbors began fireworks shortly after Eva went to bed. It wasn't long before the crying began. She was up almost constantly for the next several hours as kids got their kicks. I'm a pretty laid back person, most of the time. But you don't mess with my sleep. Even more so, you don't mess with my baby's sleep. Nap time and bed time are sacred. Let's just say that I was less than pleased with the neighborhood fireworks. I even made Ryan call the cops... but only because there was a firework ban that year because of a drought. I didn't want a house fire on top of having a crying baby.
Last year on July 4th (which was on a Wednesday) the fireworks went into the wee hours of the morning as well. Eva, amazingly, slept through the whole thing. I almost went outside and yelled at the neighbors because SOME people had to work the next day. I was livid, I tell you.
Tonight, it's almost 11:00 and the sky sparkles have been going on for almost 3 hours straight. I have a sneaking suspicion that I'll be angry in a few hours when it still sounds like a war zone in my back yard. This year, I promise not to call the police... unless they wake up Eva. Then I"ll be ready to fight. :)
I hope everyone had a great day enjoying all of the things that make you feel American. Like fireworks. :) Hopefully my brothers are having fun torturing someone else with their firecracker antics this year.

i am not a huge fan of fireworks either, but for different reasons. I used to love them, but the last few years, all i can think of when i see fireworks is how much they cost. i think, man, that was like 10 thousand dollars up in smoke.
Bethy, you're so funny. You're right, they do cost a stinkin lot of money.
Haley you crack me up! I am the smae way when it comes to my babies sleep!! I can't tell you how many times we have called the cops for loud fireworks that cost our baby to sleep!!!! It is so nice to know I am not the only one!
We feel the same way about fireworks in residential areas (though I didn't always have this opinion). It freaks our dogs out, and they won't go outside to go to the bathroom for like 15 hours straight. We've heard them all around our house every night since Thursday of last week. Luckily Ella sleeps through it. We would probably call the cops too if we could pinpoint the exact location :)
Hahaha, Haley, I loved this post! I can just imagine your "mad" face at all your crazy neighbors. I'm not a huge fan of fireworks myself. Take or leave them if you ask me! Hopefully Eva slept through the night this year. :)
OH..tell Ryan not to sign up for the singing unless he is serious, I might just take him up on it....AND I'm pretty sure I cried through my entire song at your wedding. I still feel bad about that! Ha!
