Eva got to spend the weekend with her Mimi and TyTy. She is officially rotten as a result. But that's perfectly okay but that's what grandparents do. I wouldn't have expected anything less. (On a side note, she did sleep pretty good for them this weekend!) But she was happy to see her mommy and daddy today. It made my heart melt like ice cream in this Texas heat.
Back to our weekend. Ryan and I went on a long journey to downtown Ft. Worth. It was perfect. We got to catch up on our sleep and eat lots of yummy food, it was fabulous. Exactly what we needed at this moment. (More on some of the craziness later this week.) Well last night, as we were enjoy some lovely conversation on the rooftop patio of our hotel, I realized some interesting things about myself.
Realization number 1: I have never lived anywhere for longer than 6 years. Isn't that crazy?
Here's how it goes. I was born in Shreveport, LA and lived there until I was 4. Then my dad felt the call to be a pastor and we moved to Ft. Worth, TX so he could attend seminary and we were here for 2 years. Then we moved to Garner, TX for one year. Saline, LA for 5 years. DeRidder, LA for 6 years. Arkadelphia, AR (for college) for 4 years. And now I've lived in Ft. Worth again for 5 years. Crazy, huh?! I realized last night that I don't really have any strong attachment to any place that I've lived. I never know exactly what to say when some asks me about my hometown.
My second realization is one I've had for quite a while, but just shared it with Ryan for the first time and he laughed at me pretty hard. Here it goes... I want to be one of those people that carries a big bag with everything you could possibly need inside. My mom was never one of those people (no offense mom), mostly because she doesn't really like purses. I enjoy having random things in my bag, just in case. I like to have band-aids, snacks, a small sewing kit, hairspray, mouthwash, water, toys for kids, and anything else I can think of. I'm not there yet, but it's a dream I'm reaching for! :0) I know, I"m such a dork.
I'll update with some pictures later in the week. But now it's bedtime. And I have to go pack my crazy bag before I go to work tomorrow. :)

Congrats to you and Ryan on five years!!! Sounds like you had a great weekend to yourselves. Did you feel like you were missing a limb without Eva there?
So, can we call you the bag lady when you have your bag o'tricks? LOL. Seriously though, it would be good to have a lot of those things available. ;)
I guess the apple doesn't fall as far from the tree as you think it does.
You are right that I don't like to carry a purse--too confining!!! Give me my freedom! :)
But when I do . . . well, let's just say that at a ladies' night out we played a game one year. They called out different items to see if we had them in our purses. At the end, they were all laughing at all the things I had neatly stored in my purse--everything from dental floss to clippers to eyeliner to emergency taxi money to scissors to chapstick to . . . well you get the idea! The toys and snacks are no longer there--but they were always in the diaper bag. You probably don't remember what all I DO have in my bag since I never like to carry it. Go figure that one--but it is there just in case I per chance have it with me. :o)
Glad you had a wonderful weekend with your wonderful husband. He's a keeper. In fact, he's my FAVORITE son-in-law. ;)
Love you all
Mom
I am glad that you had such a good weekend! And I LOVE yoour big bag dream!!! You make me laugh so hard! My mom is one of those women and it really is a good thing!!
For the record... my mom neither now nor has ever lived in a place where she would need taxi money. Mom, that just makes you crazy! :)
Happy five years! I'm so glad that you guys were able to escape to downtown Ft. Worth for the weekend. (I'm a little jealous). I also love big bags, but I've never really carried one because I have the diaper bag. I love that Eva had some air mattress fun too :)
happy anniversary!!!! i am the same way on not living anywhere longer than 6 years. i never realized that about you though. i am glad yall had a good anniversary. We are just going out to eat for ours. Too bad we arent all in Antigua like we dreamed. Maybe our 10 year.
You mean that spending every waking moment with our granddaughter and granting her every request, spoiled her? hmmmm.... :-)! (We loved giving her a meal of bread and oreos and ice cream - oops!)
We really had such a great time.
Did I tell you that she is THE sweetest little girl in the world?
I've always been teased about having everything in my purse or bag, so press on.....! I think Motherhood brings that out in us.
Good luck in bringing Eva back to reality....sorry...not really....
Love you - Mimi
You can do the big bag!! It is so in season right now and most of them come with all sorts of fun compartments!! :)
Happy Anniversary to you both!!! I can't believe it's been 5 years! Time flys!
