Dear Kansas City

Dear Kansas City,
It is now officially spring time.  Please stop snowing!  And please don't shut down your airport as it makes it especially difficult for me to fly into it if it's closed.

Thank you.

Do you want to know the whole story?  Our flight to Houston last Saturday went really well.  No bumps to speak of.  Just one two year old who was NOT happy when the captain turned on the seat belt sign at the end of the flight.  I had to "threaten" Eva with a promise that the flight attendant was going to come over if she didn't put her seat belt on.  Maybe not the best discipline tactic, but it worked... and nothing else seemed to be working.  I obviously couldn't put her in timeout, and someone recently told me about a lady who was arrested on an airplane after spanking her child.  Wasn't even going to think about going down that road.  And the child chattered incessantly the entire flight, which is pretty funny looking back, but at the time, I was really hoping she was going to take a nap on the plane.  No such luck... but she did have a lot of fun and got to experience the tininess of the airplane bathroom.  She was not a fan.  And I honestly thought for a second that we were going to get stuck in there.

Which reminds me...

Dear Continental Airlines,
Please make your bathrooms about one foot bigger, because a squirmy two year old and her mommy who is 28 weeks pregnant, don't fit so well.
Thank you.

Easy, breezy... spent a week in Louisiana with my parents (which I will update you on later) then started to prepare for our flight home on Saturday morning.

We had heard that there was a chance of snow in Kansas City, but I was being hopeful and optimistic.   Since Houston is 3 hours from where my parents live, we left there around 9:30 Saturday morning.  Made it to the airport just before 1:00.  Saw the flight, originally scheduled for 2:30, had been delayed until 3:10.  No big deal.

Got a phone call from the hubs, "It's snowing here," he said.  Not a huge deal.  Head over to the terminal after grabbing some lunch.  Got a text message from hubs saying that he heard the airport in KC had been shut down.

WHAT?!?!

Saw the really long line at the ticket counter in the terminal and overheard from many people that yes, all flights to KC had been cancelled due to the blizzard like conditions.  I wait in the long line of people while Eva lays down on the floor because she is exhausted.  Get to the front to reschedule and she puts me on standby for the 7:00 flight to KC.  I wasn't dumb enough to believe that I was going to make it on that flight.  I told the rude and non-helpful lady that I would rather be scheduled for another flight where I actually have a seat than to be on standby tonight.  So, what did she do?  Nothing.  Put me on standby.  Thanks, lady.  I asked her about our luggage and she said, "It will be on the next flight to KC."  Thanks, but no thanks.  Because now I have no car seat and we can't leave the airport without a car seat.  I left there quickly before losing my temper with her.

So, I carry all of our stuff, plus Eva out of the airport, where thankfully my mom was still waiting.  She had decided to wait around for a little bit because we didn't have a very good feeling about the day.  Meanwhile, Ryan was on the phone trying to get me on the next flight out of there.  Due to everyone else who was re-scheduling, the next available flight was on Tuesday!  Crazy!  What am I supposed to do for the next 3 days?  Especially with no luggage.  I went to ask someone at the ticket counter, how I could get my luggage back.  They sent me down to baggage claim, who told me to "put my patience on" and they would retrieve my belongings as quickly as possible.  Long story, short... I finally got my luggage back around 5:00 pm.

I also heard someone mention that they were going to add 2 flights to KC on Sunday.  I called Ryan back and asked him to try calling again.  Finally, he got Eva and me on the 7 am Sunday morning.  (This was also a crazy situation, because the flights weren't listed anywhere, so it was impossible to find out what terminal/gate I was supposed to be at and if the flight was going to be delayed.  They didn't put this flight in the big system because it was only for people who had been cancelled on Saturday.)

The good part of this story is that my aunt lives in Houston about 15 minutes from the airport.  So we were able to stay with her and she made us a yummy dinner and I got to see some cousins I haven't seen in a long time and Eva got to play with their kids.  It turned out to be a good evening despite the stress of the day.

Eva and I went to bed around 10:45 Saturday night and I woke up every hour.  Partly because her head was in my back the whole time, partly because I was worried about oversleeping, and partly because I had heartburn (thank you pregnancy).  So when my alarm went off at 4:30 am on Sunday morning, I really felt like I hadn't ever really gone to sleep.

We made it to the airport, and the flight wasn't even listed on the board, so I was really nervous that my flight didn't exist, but my boarding pass did have a gate on it, so I started to feel better.  The flight ended up leaving right on time and we landed in KC 2 hours later with no problems. It was a really long 24 hours.

After a 3 1/2 hour nap for me and a 4 1/2 hour nap for Eva yesterday afternoon, we both felt much better.

Now it's on to packing this week because we're moving on Saturday!!!!!!!!!!  As it turns out, even though our house hasn't sold, it equals out financially for us to move into the rent house and not have a storage unit as it would be for us to stay in this apartment and continue paying for our stuff to stay in storage.  So, we are moving!!!  And I am so excited.  We have also had a lot of showings on our house recently, so hopefully something will come from that.

Okay, book over.  I'll give stories and pictures and stories from our trip later in the week.
