I didn't want to hear that

You know how it is some mornings. You stumble to the coffee pot and hope that what drips out of the bottom has super magical powers. It doesn't. The little people all wake up with stuffy noses. The big one is already arguing about what she will or will not wear today. You lick what you think is a stray drop of coffee creamer off your hand only to realize, nope!, that was a stray drop of baby spit-up. Fantastic.

Ugh! Clearly, this day is going to be awe-some! (You must sing the word awesome in order to get the full effect.)

That's precisely how my morning started off, not to mention all the not-sleeping that goes on around here. Some days it just feels like too much.

But then, I opened up my devotional, Jesus Calling. I can't say enough how much this book is exactly what I need during this stage of life. It is short, but so powerful. And everyday it leaves me feeling like Jesus has spoken to me. That's how I felt this morning when I opened and read:
"Bring me the sacrifice of thanksgiving. Take nothing for granted, not even the rising of the sun... When you focus on what you don't have or on situations that displease you, your mind also becomes darkened... You look for what is wrong and refuse to enjoy life until that is 'fixed'."
I will offer to You the sacrifice of thanksgiving, and will call upon the name of the Lord. ~Ps. 116:17

So today, I will choose to offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving for all of the blessings in my life. Yes, I have a baby who is still in a really difficult stage, but I. HAVE. A. BABY! That is one of the biggest blessings in life. I will not take it for granted. I will not refuse to enjoy this life, this moment, that God has blessed me with just because I'm tired.

Jesus, thank you.

You are so precious Haley. What a great reminder. It is so easy to start the day off with the wrong attitude. I think us moms can get really worn down by the routine of our days and we forget to appreciate what we have. Our kids are little for such a short time and one day they will be grown and on their own and we will long to have some of these current days back.
