No Nap and No Diaper

We had a busy weekend!  Saturday afternoon we had to wake Eva up from her nap so we could go to an event for the newlyweds.  It was fun and Eva made new, tall friends.  Except the house where we were had a dog... you remember how she feels about dogs.  So, she spent much of the afternoon wanting to know where the dog was.  "Doggy outside."  "Doggy upstairs."  She is still very interested in dogs, just as long as they aren't within 10 feet of her and she is being held by yours truly.   So after this, we didn't get home and get her in bed until about 8:30.  That is about 30 min to an hour past her normal bed time... not that big of a deal.  She actually slept a little later on Sunday morning which was nice.

Sunday we went to church and then went to eat lunch and then went to Babies 'R Us.  By the time we got there, she was starting to move into that "I'm crazy because I'm sleepy!" phase.  For those without children, or those with grown children... this phase can be considered fun and cute for about 30 seconds, but it quickly moves into the "I don't want to stop running through the store and you can't make me.  I don't know if you remember mom, but I'm almost two and I know how to express my own opinions now. NO!!!" phase.  (Yes, that's a technical phase.  I looked it up. )  That is why we like... no wait... that is why we NEED naps.

So, we left Babies 'R Us and went home.  By the time we got home it was almost 2:00.  We pretty quickly put Eva down for a nap.  About 10 minutes later, she was still crying, only now we hear, "Poo Poo!"  over and over.  (Eva's going to kill me for this in about 14 years.)  Ryan drew the short straw, so he went to check.  Sure enough, the stinky monster had made a visit.  He changed her and rocked her for a minute then laid her back down.  Minutes later, we hear "Mommy, rock you.  Mommy, rock you..."  I decided to go in and rock her and sing.  Wrong.  Now she's hungry.  Because it's been 2 1/2 hours since she last ate and she didn't eat much at all for lunch.  She gets a snack, then more rocking, then back to bed.  Ryan and I were exhausted, so we were also trying to take a nap.  This time she was pretty quiet and just talking to herself a little bit.  (One time I heard her say, "How cute!"  I have no idea what she was talking about.)  Fast forward 45 minutes later, and she's really getting mad that she is still in bed alone.  The crying begins.  Ryan, being the sweet daddy that he is, said he'd go get her and give me a few more minutes of silence.

Fifteen seconds later, I hear, "Haley!"  I begrudgingly get up and head into Eva's room.  There I find, what my husband had found just moments earlier.  A child... our child... without pants and without a diaper, pointing to the floor saying, "Wet!"  The nap-protesting girl had taken her diaper off and then urinated on the bed and floor.  If we hadn't have been so tired, we might have chuckled.  I said "might"... not for sure.

We gave up on the nap and changed her clothes and left to go visit friends in the hospital. (They just had a cute little boy!)  Nap protester fell asleep for a few minutes in the car.  Because of our hospital visit and another errand we had to run (that errand is a whole other story), we didn't get home until 8:00.  Eva still needed to eat and she really needed a bath.  So, it was 9:00 by the time she got in bed.  That's way too late.  Contrary to what some believe, it didn't make her sleep better or longer.  She started waking up at 4:30 this morning, and woke up hourly until she finally saw some daylight around 7 am.

What a day!  Lesson from the weekend.  Eva still needs daily naps and from now on, we will let her have one at all cost!  She was still recovering from today from all the lack of sleep yesterday.  Tomorrow, she goes to Mother's Day Out and she never gets a good nap there.  Tomorrow afternoon should be just as fun as yesterday!  I can't wait.  :)

I did take a picture of her yesterday on the way to church in her adorable polka dot dress, but my camera is still in the car.  You'll have to wait until tomorrow to see the picture.

Oh, Haley, I am laughing about the wetting on the floor! I know it probably wasn't funny to you and Ryan, but it just sounds like Miss Eva knows how to get Mommy and Daddy's attention at all costs. I think that we have the same thought process when it comes to naps. They are definitely a must. Our entire schedule on the weekend revolves around naptime.

Yes, I finally decided to join the blogger community! :)It is forcing me to take more pictures, and that is a good thing. I hope tonight is a better night for y'all with Eva. That can be draining.
