Why I will not be training for a 5K this year

I enjoy running. Actually, let's be honest here. I used to enjoy running. I haven't run consistently in quite a while. It got much harder to find time when I was a newlywed working 10-12 hrs a day and commuting 2+ hours a day. (And the pay wasn't even worth it!!! Ugh. Hated that job!) So in the summer of 2005, I decided I wanted/needed to get back into running. I started running after work at the gym at my office. I decided that I would train for a 5K as motivation to keep running when I didn't feel like it. It was great for me. I just stayed after work b/c I didn't have to pick up a kid from daycare or anything. Then Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans and they turned our gym into a refugee shelter. So I stopped running for a couple of weeks (it was way too hot to run outside at the time). And then, I found out that I was unexpectedly pregnant with Eva. No running for the next 9 months.

Fast forward two years, I decided again that I needed to train for a 5K as motivation to start consistently running again. I started the Couch-to-5K program. I was trucking along doing pretty well, and really enjoying my mornings once I got my booty out of bed. :) Then everything started happening with us moving to Kansas City, and I stopped running for about a month with great plans to start running again as soon as we got to KC. And then I found out that I was unexpectedly pregnant with Eli. No running for the next 9 months.

When Eli was about 8 months old, I was talking to a friend and told her that I was really ready to start getting my body back in shape and was ready to start running again. I think I might have even looked at the Couch-to-5K running plan again. But then for the next few weeks I was just SO TIRED that I couldn't find the energy to run. Then I started feeling a little funny. And then I found out that I was unexpectedly pregnant with Isaac. No running for the next 9 months.

Are we seeing a pattern here???

That is why I will NOT be training for a 5K this year.

Although, I do have every intention of trying to find a stomach muscle or two in the coming months. Let's be honest, carrying two big baby boys in back to back years did not do good things for my stomach muscles.

Here's to not training for a 5K! But if I happen to be able to run 3.2 miles by the end of the year, that will be a great bonus.

:)
