Mr. Ears

Ryan and I are completely aware that we are in for a lifetime of hilariously embarrassing comments from Eli. And I'm also very aware that it will not always be funny in the moment. He can get away with a lot right now because he is little and cute. But people won't always be as forgiving as they are now. But I'm living in the now and so yesterday's incident was HILARIOUS!

I took all three munchkins to Costco yesterday afternoon because Ryan was trying to work from home. The kids all wanted to do some taste testing. By the third little cart, Eli had picked up on their normal greeting and before the worker could say anything, he said, "hi! How are you today?" It was very sweet. They just think I have the most polite kid ever. They don't know that he's just repeating what he's heard. At least he used it appropriately.

But that wasn't the hilarious part. As we were leaving Eli started asking for pizza. It was only 4:30, but his little body thought it was dinner time thanks to the blessed time change. So I got a piece of pizza to take home. As we were placing our order Eli starts saying to the worker, "Um, excuse me, hi Mr. Ears... Hi Mr. Ears... Hi Mr. Ears..." I could have crawled under a table. I'm still not sure if the guy was just ignoring Eli or if he really didn't hear him, but he never said a word. He was wearing a hair net, so I have no idea what his ears looked like. And I was trying not to stare.

To make matters worse, the elderly lady behind us started saying, "I don't think he heard you, say it again!"  I think she only heard Eli saying hi, but not enough to know exactly what he was saying.

Oh geez Louise!

Luckily, it was a good distraction and it got Eli off of Mr. Ears and he started saying hi to the kind lady behind us. Thankfully he didn't say anything controversial to her. :)

Oh Eli. I'm so thankful for you for so many reasons! And I'm thankful that God uses you to keep me humble in this life.
