This is the phrase that I've been hearing non-stop for the last 36 hours. We took Eva to the doctor (Dr. Sampson) yesterday for her 2 year check-up. They had to do a finger prick to check her iron levels. When the nurse poked her, Eva gave her the worst death look ever. It was really funny. She didn't cry until they had to squeeze her finger. Deep down, I knew what the results would be of this test. Sure enough, the nurse came back and said Eva's iron was low and so she wanted to check it again to be sure. So we had to take the band-aid off, squeeze the heck out of her finger again and then she got another band-aid... which she hated. She kept saying, "Mommy, band-aid off. Band-aid off." Somehow, reasoning with her that she needed the band-aid until her finger stopped bleeding just didn't work. But we kissed her finger and she got to pick out a sticker on the way out of the office. It wasn't until we got in the car, that she started crying. She cried and cried and kept saying, "Dr. Tampton pinched you." over and over and over and... Today, she is still holding up her tiny little finger and saying the same phrase. Then she says, "No pinching Eva anymore." Tonight, I finally got it through to her that Dr. Sampson didn't pinch her finger, but nurse Marcia did pinch her finger. I don't want her to be afraid of her doctor because she LOVES Dr. Sampson. She even "calls" her on the phone and talks to her. It's so cute.
Now, for anemia. They told me to give her a Flinstone vitamin every day and try to get her to eat more red meat and green vegetables. The only green vegetable she'll eat is green peas, and those don't have all that much iron in them. We don't generally eat red meat all that often either, and Eva HATED the vitamins. I got her all pumped up about them and she put it in her mouth for a few seconds then out it came. "Eva no like it," she said. So how in heck am I supposed to get iron in this kid? I'll gladly accept suggestions.
And so we'll end on a laughing note... the funniest story of the day. I had taken a bottle of water with me to Eva's doctor's visit yesterday, but left it in the car. I was thirsty when we got back in the car, so I took a big swig. That's when I felt it. There was something extra in my mouth with the water. "Bug." was my first thought. My next thought was, "There's a BUG IN MY MOUTH!!!" In my "I have to get this bug out of my mouth or I'll day" state of mind, the logical thing to do was spit it out. So, I did. Minor problem, though. I was driving. So my mouth full of water landed in my lap... as I'm driving. My cousin Emilie (who is staying with us for the next couple of weeks to keep Eva) looked over at me with this stunned face. She told me later that her first thought was that I was vomiting. When I didn't see a bug in my lap, I started laughing then Emilie started laughing, then Eva started saying, "Mommy all wet!" When I thought was a bug turned out to be a small piece of paper. I have NO idea how a piece of paper got in my water bottle, but it did. I still laugh hard every time I think about seeing that pool of water soak into my skirt and realizing that there was no bug. Go ahead and laugh. I can take it. :)

Haley, they make liquid vitamin drops that you can add to her juice and she won't taste a thing. Many pharmacies keep them behind the counter or will order them if they don't have it. I give Madison and Sydney gummy vitamins that look and taste like gummy bears. Hope that helps!
We had that same problem with Abby. We'd try to give her a flinstone vitamin & she'd just spit it right out. We started giving it to her with an M&M and she would eat it. That went pretty well & then we started telling her she had to eat the vitamin & then she could have an M&M. She would do that & then we just started ignoring the M&M unless she asked for it. Now she takes her vitamin every day without any problems (provided it's not an orange one). This may not be the best way to do it, but it worked for us !!

Poor Eva! I bet she didn't like that finger prick at all. However, I was totally laughing at her commentary. She is so funny.
I am not sure if you have looked at the ingredients on the flinstone vitamins, but it is mostly sugar and food dyes. You can get floradix iron for kids that can be mixed with some juice to cut down the taste of it. Also, I have friends that use Rainbow Light vitamins. I also have friends that make a mixture of 1 cup milk with 1 tbsp blackstrap molasses when they have low iron (blackstrap molasses is high in iron).
Hope that helps! I have some other ideas, but didn't want to write a book on your blog. ;)
