The stalling before bed time has begun for our little 22 month old. It started last week actually, but I just figured that she was doing it because her routine was so off. It's definitely now a game. The last two nights, we went through the whole routine just like normal. Only now, just before I would normally put her in bed, she says, "Rock." So, I sit on her bed to rock because I'm not going to come back to the living room with bright lights and other distractions. Then the conversation goes something like this:
Me: "Let's sing one song and then go night-night.
Eva: "No song. Juice."
Me: "Eva you don't need juice."
Eva: "Daddy night-night."
Me: You already told Daddy night-night.
Eva: Daddy, big hugs.
Me: You already gave Daddy big hugs.
Eva: Swing.
Me: No, we're not going to sing.
Then I just start singing one of her favorite songs. Today at nap time, she kept telling me "no" throughout the whole song. So I just put her in her bed. Then she goes through the whole scenario with me again. "Mommy big hugs." "Mommy cheek kiss." etc... Then, as I turn to leave, she says, "Mommy blanket on." So I go to cover her with a blanket. Only the blanket I have isn't the right blanket. "No. This blanket." Now "this blanket" could be any number of the blankets in her room just not the blanket that I have in my hand. So, I just give her a choice between two. She makes her choice, FINALLY lays down, I cover her up and the battle is over... for tonight anyway. Tomorrow there could be tears... the big dramatic kind while Eva calls out, "Mommy, hold you. Mommy, hold you..." (By hold "you", she really means hold "me". The pronouns are a little tricky.)

I know so MANY people in your situation! Ella is not quite there yet, but she is showing signs. When you figure out how to best deal with bedtime stalling, you will have to post about it. I will take notes!
Are you sure you didn't overhear this conversation at our house ?? I had to laugh when I read this because it sounds like the exact conversation I have with Abby at night.
I enjoyed reading your blog. Eva sure is cute !!
We started potty training this week. Abby's catching on pretty good. I had to laugh today though when I went to the bathroom & I immediately got cheers from Abby for going. "Good Job Mommy, you went potty in the big girl potty !!" It was pretty funny.
